A year after being relegated from Division I of the Mumbai School Sports Association’s (MSSA) football league, Don Bosco is now on the cusp of becoming one of the pioneers of a sporting revolution hitting the city. The Borivali outfit is endeavouring to adopt a professional approach to training for inter-school sports. And for that purpose it has recently engaged a group of experts, Proforce, to monitor and enhance performance. Coaching by specialists, diet monitoring, sports counselling… it’s a far cry to schools’ general lackadaisical approach to sports.Led by ex-army captains Ameya Kocharekar and Sachin Sharma, Proforce ensures that Bosco kids are treated and trained like professionals. Well known coach Zakir Ansari, a ‘B’ license holder, is heading Don Bosco’s quest for promotion. A 2-0 win over St Anne’s (Orlem) last week ensured that they began their campaign on the right foot. “Our goal is to reach the first division. But we want to do it by playing quality football,” said Ansari, who has coached MSSA teams for around a decade — majorly St Mary ICSE.
