Innovative Teaching Skills
Mrs. Joelinda D’Silva.
The Pre-Primary and Primary teachers of Don Bosco High School, Borivali were introduced to Creative and Critical thinking skills at a one day seminar on October 7, 2023. Fr. Flovi D’Souza, the Principal introduced Mrs. Ranjana Gupta the resource person who walked us through an engaging session on Collaborative Learning and Critical Thinking. The day was divided into three parts:
In Collaborative Learning, Mrs. Gupta emphasized the value of students explaining their ideas to peers and participating in group activities. This fostered 21st-century skills like self-directed learning, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and reflective learning. We even had a fun exercise called ‘rub a chicken,’ which highlighted the interactive nature of collaborative learning.
Mrs. Gupta expertly differentiated between teaching and facilitation, shedding light on the distinctive skills required for each when she delved into Critical Thinking.
There was a Practical Application to all of this. To apply what we learned, we formed grade-wise groups with our colleagues and developed lessons using the tools from the session. In just 20 minutes, we crafted excellent lessons, thanks to Mrs. Gupta’s guidance, which included presentations, videos, assignments, and activities. This seminar encouraged us to think creatively and outside the box.
We are grateful to Mrs. Ranjana Gupta for her insightful session and our Principal for organizing this enriching seminar. We know that our interaction with our students in the classroom will be of a higher order and we hope it will give better results.
