History of Don Bosco Junior College, Borivli

The Don Bosco Junior college, a Minority institute run by the Salesian Society was inaugurated in June 2013 with a need to cater to the educational needs of our pupils.  It was decided to have a co-ed Junior College. In the initial years the Management had difficulty in motivating students to join us. Today, 7 Years later, Don Bosco Junior college has become one of the much sought after institutions, not only for its academic excellence but also because the Management and the Staff have been following up the students very closely.  A good infrastructure, appropriate disciplinary measures and guidance of students during their difficult years, together with a good parent-teacher rapport have made the difference. Most of our teachers are very dedicated and cooperative with the management and its ideals. The PTA too has been very supportive.

In 2013 due to pressure from the parents and repeated insistence from the Directorate of Education we started a new division for the Commerce and Science streams.  This initiative was taken to accommodate the catholic students from our own high school and from the neighborhood. In the Year 2014 a new division for Arts Stream was also started. Don Bosco Junior college has students from Don Bosco High School and the neighboring institutions frequenting the three streams of Arts, Science and Commerce:  One division in each Stream, each accommodating a maximum of 80 students.

With the noble motto “Virtus in Arduis”. Virtue conquers Hardships, the Fathers, Brothers and the members of the staff have toiled toward growth with single-minded commitment. As a result, the Junior college has grown to its present dimension and risen to prominence in the eyes of the people and Education Department. The Junior College inspections which have taken place have brought commendable reports to the credit of the staff and Management.

Don Bosco is perceived as Junior College apart, for it has a fine blend of academics, sports and culture. Consider the numerous activities that take place all the year round, one wonders how do we achieve success! Well, the secret is precise pre-planning with perfect execution.  Our HSC results also speak of our success. This year 151 students appeared for their HSC exams and we got 100% results in all three streams i.e. Science, Commerce and Arts.

Don Bosco Junior College has a Tradition of Co-Curricular Activities which are meant to enable the pupils to acquire interest in the field events and thus lead to a harmonious development of physical, moral, aesthetic and intellectual life. Every pupil is required to participate in one or more of these activities according to his interest and aptitude. This Don Bosco Borivali has adopted a novel & professional Sports and Performing Arts Coaching Model in collaboration with Proffesional coaches which started from the academic year 2015-16. The Student Council works hard to create a platform for nurturing Leaders of tomorrow filled with passion, loyalty and service to the Junior College. They work towards a Healthy and Vivacious school environment in the hope to create a sense of belonging for the students population and staff. The current strength of the Student council is 10 members. Besides these Every class has a set of 10 Leaders per class. Each to lead their respective groups. This has embedded them with a sense of Responsibility towards the Junior College in every true sense.

The Junior College has well equipped Laboratories for Chemistry, Physics, Biology & Information Technology. All the classrooms have LCD projectors and Speakers for High-Tech teaching.  A Library plays a vital role in the Life of a student as it helps in developing their love for reading. Our well stocked and updated library is proud to offer to all the students and teachers a large array of books and periodicals.

For a better functioning of the Junior College, the Principal has installed 4 important councils in place viz. Academics, Health & Hygiene & Faith Formation, Discipline, Sports and Cultural. Each council has a set of Teachers in charge to follow up on the numerous activities that they conduct.

The pioneer efforts during these initial years will continue to bear fruit during the coming years. Today the Junior college has already started to command respect from all of its standards of education, discipline and sports giving back a true and responsible citizen.
