Rector's Conference
On 16th November 2024, Rev. Fr. Manuel Murzello, the Rector of Don Bosco Educational Complex, delivered an inspiring and thought-provoking conference for the staff on the theme “Educating Young Minds the Don Bosco Way.” The session served as a valuable opportunity for the staff to reconnect with the educational philosophy of Don Bosco and to reflect on their own roles as educators.
Fr. Murzello began the session by briefing the staff about the recent developments and news about the congregation.
He also shared the strenna 2025 “ Anchored in hope, Pilgrim with the Young” .
This introduction set the tone for a session focused on growth, collaboration, and the Salesian identity.
Fr. Murzello opened his address by sharing anecdotes from the life of Saint John Bosco, emphasizing that like many saints, Don Bosco studied the needs of his time and responded innovatively. One such example was Don Bosco’s dream at the age of nine, which he described as a beacon of light guiding his life’s mission.
The Rector encouraged the staff to embrace Don Bosco’s thought process, reminding them that as educators, they are called to be not just teachers but compassionate mentors who inspire and guide students.
A recurring theme in the conference was the importance of growing in the Salesian identity. Fr. Murzello urged the staff to reflect on the foundation of Don Bosco’s teachings, which is the act of love. He posed the question: “Do we really love our students?” This thought-provoking inquiry encouraged the staff to introspect and evaluate the depth of their dedication and care.
Drawing on an example of six rude orphans at Don Bosco’s Oratory, Fr. Murzello highlighted how love and appreciation can transform even the most challenging students. He emphasized that educating young minds might not always be easy, but it is achievable if approached with Don Bosco’s philosophy of selfless love.
Sharing further examples from Don Bosco’s life, the Rector illustrated how genuine care and understanding were pivotal in guiding troubled boys back on track. He quoted Don Bosco’s words: “It is not enough to love the children; it is more important for them to know that they are loved.”
Fr. Murzello reminded the staff that Don Bosco never played down the importance of faith and Gospel values in his educational approach. Religion and morality were central to his philosophy, providing students with a sense of purpose and direction. He cautioned that without God and faith, life becomes a fragmented puzzle, lacking coherence and meaning.
The Rector concluded his address by reflecting on the delicate yet rewarding role of educators. He stressed that the love and effort teachers invest in their students will be returned to them in equal measure. He encouraged the staff to persevere in their mission, assuring them that acts of selfless love and dedication
